Blue Ridge Blues & BBQ Festival in Roanoke Virginia.

Blue Ridge Blues & BBQ Festival

Finger Licking BBQ & Smoking Hot Blues in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Roanoke, Virginia..   July 22, 2006

The Fat Daddy Band.  Not shown is the bassist.  Sorry dude.    They were loads of fun.  The Big Hurl (in yellow) owns the stage.  Little secret that everybody knows, The Big Hurl is actually one of the event organizers.  How do you get a name like Big Hurl...on second thought I don't think I want to know:)

A COUPLE OF REALLY COOL THINGS I GOTTA TELL YA...

1.  They (Hurl and other show organizers) donated $2000 to TAP, a group fighting poverty.  Hats off to them for that.  Especially cool considering this couldn't have been a big money making event.  LOVE IT!

2.  The Roanoke web-site for the festival had a link to a blues podcaster named Dave.  Dave's show is called Bluzndablood.  Way cool and fits my budget -Free free free.  He has done at least six podcasts so far (about an hour each).  He picks good tunes and has a very cool blues voice.  He gives lots of little facts but doesn't talk to much!  I downloaded all the podcasts and listened to them through my MP3 player on the way to the show.  He helped me discover some good tunes and in one show he highlighted the festival by playing songs from the bands that played the fest.  What a great idea Dave.  Cool.   I suggest you check this out.  It's free fun and good tunes.  I can't wait to check out the latest one. Click here.  If you download podcast 5, you'll hear Dave give a shoutout to us blues fans here in Walkertown.  I knew one day that Walkertown would be famous.

Schedule below - under pictures.

Sorry I don't have more pictures but I was busy dancing.

The sign says Historic Gainsboro.  This is a section of Roanoke.  Pretty town and good blues on a beautiful day when I think it actually rain & stormed everywhere on the East coast except the exact location of this Blues festival!  This is the nicest security guy in the world AND one of the better security guy dancers!  One of those is his daughter.  What's his name.

Stacy Hobbs and his Harpitar.  Very pretty sound.  (Maybe it's a Guitarp...I just don't know.) The New Roanoke Jug Band.  Don't remember seeing a Jug.  Maybe they hit that before the stage!:>

Not actual photo of beer garden.

This picture won't enlarge...thank goodness.

The Beer Prison..uh...I mean Garden. Okay - I'm just kidding, but, damn!, I don't know what's up but the beer garden was a place behind the stage & way off to the left.   You were allowed to have visitors but couldn't see nor barely hear the music.  I hope they rectify this for next time.

Miriam dancing without me.  I must have been sentenced to some time in the big house (see picture to left:)

Who is this. Click here to tell me. This it the front porch stage.  Nice touch huh?

Decent crowd but time to get off their butts!

You could see those pretty steeples from everywhere.  As you can see in the bottom left of the phto, there were some vendors there too.  Not many and I'm not sure how well they did...  The food vendors seem to be doing well.  Guess that why it is so difficult to get those butts out of those chairs!...

Tinsley rocked.  I really thought he would be too much for me but he was bluestastic!  We danced & danced and then danced some more.  This guy in the orange shirt on left was really digging it.

Sweaty Dan & his beautiful bride.  The couple behind us danced all day too!

See you next time!
