Buenos Aires, Argentina |
In November of 2004, Miriam and I were lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in Argentina. I've been meaning to put this up for a long time. We started our trip in Buenos Aires. Miriam is from that area of Argentina and has friends there. Her great friend Susanna put us up and gave us her bedroom in her apartment. Sweet! People call it the Paris of South America. I liked it better than Paris. |

| Susanna & Miriam above in Plaza San Martin in Buenos
Aires. I like this photo becuase it reminds me of the things I remember of Buenos Aires. Clean parks, wonderful weather, beautiful old buildings and modern buildings as well. |

Leather purse at Open Air Market in San Telmo. Argentina is world famous for it's leather & steak (like you didn't already know ;) San Telmo is a hip artist & antique area of Buenos Aires. There was so much cool stuff in that neighborhood that I am building a page devoted to just that little area of Buenos Aires. |

| That's Susana helping Miriam climb up on that gigantic limb of an Ombu tree in a park in Buenos Aires. During our trip she helped us in so many ways. That's only one branch of that tree. Amazing! |

Beautiful_Jacaranda_trees. (Jacaranda is a cool word. Say it with gusto and pronounce the J like an H. Put the accent on the last syllable (IOW stress it)). |

| Gauchos are an important part of Argentina's culture.
Here I am being welcomed by a band of gauchos inviting me to Salta. What luck! |
|
|
| Tango Dan thrills the locals. This was in La
Boca. El Boca is a wild little neighborhood near the water in
Buenos Aires. It will have soon have it's own page on the site. |

| Expand this photo to see the obelisk in the background . This is just part of this street called Neuve de Julio. It is one of the widest - if not the widest - city streets in el mundo (the world). I took the photo cause it kind of reminded me of that Beatles album. | The Obelisk is visible from everywhere it seems at times. |

| Miriam in front of Obelisk way in background. | Obelisk at night. I couldn't escape.
What is this obelisk and why is it following me around? |

|
| A normal corner in Buenos Aires. Very clean with lots of trees. | Had to get a picture of my steak. Argentina is known as having the best steak in the world. I can vouch for that! The story is that their cattle eat grass from the world famous pampas where the perfect feed for these animals grows naturally. |

| Many beautiful homes in Recoleta part of Buenos Aires. | Unusual house in Recoleta. |

|
| It's Miriam in Empanada Paradise (kidding...it's just normal section in a grocery store). Empanadas are kind of like turnovers and kind have lots of good stuff inside including steak, cheese, chicken, corn, whatever! | Fast Food place that only sells Empanadas! |

|
| The Abasto de Buenos Aires was the central fruit and vegetable market in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1893 to 1984...click here to read the rest on Wikipedia. | "Little Big Ben" a gift from Britain. The relationship between Britain and Argentina isn't so great since the whole Falkland Island thing... |
|
|
|
| Beautiful buildings like this were everywhere. | Whatever you do, don't show this one to my brother in
law! He's allergic to garlic. |

| The El Boracho Tree (drunk tree) of BA. | We bought some leather coats from this group.
Very cool store with drinks and good music. Speaking of El Boracho...I caught a little buzz. (That's not Rhea Perlman) |

| I'm trying to stop Susana from stealing the truck. Seriously though, expand the photo and look at that beautiful wood paneling. Make nice truck for Tree-Hugger Floors. Hmmmm...... | Many multiple dog walkers in Buenos Aires.

| Nice mall in Buenos Aires that was decorated for Christmas. Those are flying reindeer on the left and in the background are giant Nutcrackers. Not likely to find snow there though since Christmas can be on of the hottest times of the year. In case you didn't know, there seasons are opposite of ours. It has something to do with the Equator. I didn't look, but I guess their water goes down the drain in the opposite direction too! | Cafe Tortoni in Buenos Aires. Oldest cafe in
Argentina. http://www.cafetortoni.com.ar/index_ingles.html |
