Waterfalls in Purerto Iguazu, Argentina, largest Cataratas (waterfalls)  in the world.  Miriam & Daniel Baird take a trip to Buenos Aires & beyond.

Water Falls in Iguazu, Argentina.
Las Cataratas de Iguazu, Argentina.

Four times as wide as Niagara and over 260 feet high.

A small part of the Iguazu Falls.  Too wide & winding to capture with one photo straight on.

During the rainy season of November - March, the rate of flow of water going over the falls may reach 450,000 cubic feet (12,750 cubic m) per second.

Breathtaking.  Probably the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.

The boat guys freaking drove almost under those big falls.  I never felt such a force of water.

At one point, I literally could not hold my eyes open when I tried.   (I was scared for a moment...)

The Three Points.  Paraguay, Argentina & Brazil meet here.  Nice area to move things between countries.  Actually it is a notorious spot for that.

We saw a million rainbows that day.  Be sure to notice the rainbows & birds in lots of the photos of falls.

The Start of a new adventure.  On our way to Puerto Iguazu.  I love the name of the place.  It is the widest set of falls in the world.  Like 4 or 5 KM. miles wide! The bus we're riding in is very nice & comfortable. We could lie down, which Miriam is sort of demonstrating here. I felt like I was back home with all the vegetation & red dirt.  You can tell it was Spring there.

Many sawmills along the way.  Check out the sawdust "dunes" in the back.  Wow!  Wonder how quickly they generate those big piles?  We were told on some of our tours that they are trying to take is a little easier on the trees there....but who knows?

This is where we had lunch after we got to Puerto Iguazu.  Wonderful meat is bring grilled all the time in Argentina!  The grill pictured is fairly common to find everywhere I went in Argentina.

A map in Puerto Iguazu.  Miriam is pointing to the three points.  See wide angle picture of the 3 points at top of page.

Here we are posing by a symbol of the meeting of Argentina, Brazil & Paraguay.  See wide angle picture of actual three points at top of page.

The falls are in both Brazil and Argentina.  The big differences are that from the Brazil side you can see more of the falls at once... BUT...On the Argentinian side there are about 5 miles of high quality walkways that take you under, through and around the fall, with monkeys & parrots & butterflies all over.  Someone we spoke to saw a Toucan.

Unreal plants & flowers.

Video:  Awesome panoramic view of the falls.  Only captures about half but is cool.  29 seconds.

Video:  Falls from above. 18 seconds.

The intrepid adventurers on our trip into the jungle.

We rode right up to the falls.  You can see the boat off to our left. (sorry- I don't know a starboard from a blackboard.).  The crazy boat drivers swooped in and out.  At times, I literally could not hold my eyes open because of the downward pressure of the water.  I was scared.

Short 30 second video of us in the boat heading to the falls.  Notice that I pan to the left and you can see more falls to the left of the big rock island in front of us.  The piece you can see is actually a part of the falls in front of us too.  It's hard to imagine but the falls are literally kilometers wide!

WhoopeeDoo that ride was fun! Leaving the boat dock to start the trek through the miles of walkways throughout the falls.

Push play on video above to see Miriam's reaction to the experience thus far! A lizard sticking his tongue out at us!

Bridges at different levels.   So cool all the walkways.

Millions of butterflies.  At times I had several landing on my body at the same time.  Also, I learned that if you lick your finger and put it under the butterflies legs, they'll get right on.

Video:  One last panorama of the falls with birds flying by like crazy. A butterfly with an eye looking at you between it's wings.

A few butterflies start landing on me.  About 15 seconds. Water pouring from every crevice.

We took a boat ride on the top of the falls -- not too close -- with these guys.  In this picture, he is relaxing and - of course - drinking the Argentinian staple...Mate.  (Pronounced so that it rhymes with Latte.) Riverqueen enjoying the beautiful boat ride.

Video:  The relaxing boat ride with the sounds of birds coming from all sides. Video: The Diablo Falls with tons of birds flying in the bottom part of the picture and a glimpse of a HUGE rainbow.
