Thanksgiving 2007 at the Farm

We had 78 family and friends.  The family was mainly from my dad's side.  Heather's boyfriend brought his mom and dad and Minor's parents came as well.  But, at least 65 were or were married to direct descendents of my dad's mom & dad.  (Reminds me of the reverse of an old joke:  First grade teacher asks her class if anyone can explain what heredity means?  Little Tommy raises his hand and blurts out "It means if your parents don't have children you probably won't either.")

As you look at the pictures, you may want to notice the beautiful tree leaves that decorated our Thanksgiving celebration. Above and below photo taken by family friend, Jessica Williams.  All other photos taken by me but I'd love to receive some more so send your photos to me.

As would appear from the above photo: The weather report was for rain.  That's a drag when you've got that many people - especially kids coming.  But...voila - it was beautiful.  Then a little dark deal went over mid afternoon (pictured above) and then it was beautiful again.   Little overcast but the sun made several appearances and the temp was in the 60's!!  Dad's prayer meetings paid off  ;)

About 11:00 am on Thanksgiving morning.  Mom, Elizabeth, Miriam & Minor.  Enlarge the photo and check out the beautiful trees and smokehouse through the window.  Minor is folding napkins.  Expand the photo &  check out Minor's expression.  First Arrivals:  Heather, Nathan & Graham.  Boys with baskets .  Aren't they precious?  Looks like mom is giving some pointers on how to hold their non basket-carrying hand.

Buffy, Madison and her dad Scott.  My cousin Scott served 3 tours in Iraq and is now a Helicopter pilot instructor stateside - thank goodness.  He was a medi-vac helicopter pilot - perhaps one of the most dangerous jobs in the war.  We are all thrilled he is back safely and was able to come to Thanksgiving with us all.    I don't know how...but Timmy and Freedom knew they were missing out on a feast!  Later, Freedom made his rounds without my permission.  He is taking that name a bit too seriously.
My Aunt Wanda & her daughter Jessica on the carport. Briggs sporting his Fall colors!
Miriam and her mom Irma with Alex.  I love how the lattice porch throws those great shadows on the floor and walls. Graham, his dad Steve & Graham's roommate Nathan.

Scott & Audrey.  Blurry picture but I loved it anyway.  Audrey is holding her fifth child Hayes and she is talking to Kyra (Kendall & Chris's daughter). Aunt Wanda and her husband Uncle Jack, Aunt Janie, my niece Heather, and cousins Jessica & her brother Scott (Jack and Wanda's children)
Graham pushing Madison while Nathan, Heather, Zach and his sister Kyra wait their turns. Cousins Jessica, Kendall & her husband Chris Sizemore.

Here comes Freedom on the right and Madison is at the peak of her swing.     The swing has been a great addition to the yard.
Pictures of hanging it are here.

Sideyard.  Another slightly blurry picture. Sorry. Miriam and I gave that Weeping Willow to my mom when she retired.  Only a couple years ago.  Okay...maybe a few years longer than that.  Wow, time passes doesn't it?...especially when you are having fun! My Uncle Melvin (Alba's husband).
He's holding his grandchild Wyatt.

Behind my cabin walking down to the creek/dam.
Graham with Kyra & McKenzie.
We walked down to the old dam site and creek.  This picture was actually a little bit earlier in the fall but I didn't have any from Thanksgiving this year.  Those fall pictures are here.

I took this picture from the top of the dam.
Uncle Melvin has finished waiting and is ready to vroom vroom vroom with the tractor.  Huh, Uncle Melvin? Grahams really got a way with the ladies.
Heading down to Elizabeth's on the Hayride.  This is a picture of the approaching storm (that never happened) over a neighbor's house.  Lauren & her sister Kylie are on the far right.  Caleb is in orange shirt. I think that is Caroline Barnette sitting straight up looking to her left in the left side of the photo.  Hey - Adults can enjoy a good hayride too!!  Here we are in front of our (Miriam & Daniel's) renovated cabin.   Enlarge the picture and check out how everyone's smiling.  It really was a nice time huh?
Pictured in front row is Kyle, Nathan, Paige, Tracie, Miriam, Mom, Dad, Chris &  Robbie (both are Mike's sons).  In back row from left to right you can see Buffy (grahams mom) standing, Graham, Paige (Alba's daughter), top of Ben's head, side of one of (Carter?) Audrey's triplets, Karen & her daughter Talia, and Karen's mom Janie.

Hayride into the eye of the storm that magically disappeared.
An apt representation of the weather threat the entire day. That's my dad's brother Bennett turning around.
Mom and Dad (Frances & Wallace) on the hayride in front of my house.  I know they loved everybody coming and having such a good time.  Thanks mom & dad!
There's lots of guests I missed.  Barnettes, Greg Tronto, Misty, myself, and a whole bunch of others.  If you send a photo, one that actually proves they came and had fun would be great.

If you are impressed by my ability to name all these people...you should be.  Kidding!  Dad is the master and he went through it picture by picture with me to make sure I named most everyone.   But...I will be studying this page before family get-togethers!

Special thanks and shout out to everybody who pulled this together.  Mom, Dad, Miriam, Elizabeth, Jessica and I worked for several days to prepare.  It was very worth it!

Also, big thanks to everyone that made the trip and also everyone that brought food.  We had a cornucopia of food.  Yeah baby!

Also, thanks to Jessica for the leaf and the dark sky photo.  If any of you jokers out there have some good pix from the event - SEND THEM!!!!
